Career:
After completing his degree at Purdue University Marquis
worked for Universal Hovercraft in the Chicago area. His
responsibilities at UH included answering all email, providing
technical support, and working in the shop. In the fall
of 2003 he moved back to Terre Haute, IN to pursue a teaching
career. Marquis has taught at the middle school and high
school levels, and is currently getting ready to begin his
fourth year of teaching at Terre Haute South Vigo High School
in Terre Haute, IN.
Hovercraft Experience:
Marquis has been hovering for 12 years and has been active
in the HCA for 12 years (3 years as a high school student).
Committees &
Contributions:
Served as chairman of the youth support committee where
he has shifted the focus from having high schools build
entry level machines to race, to gathering a wide variety
of hovercraft related projects that students of all ages
and skill levels can learn from. Marquis presented some
of these projects at the recent "Hovercraft as a Teaching
Tool" symposium this past June. He also keeps in regular
contact with many of the teachers that have their schools
involved in our club.
As the HCA President Marquis
initiated a total website makeover that was completed in
November of 2005. He also was the key author in the
creation of the new endurance racing regulations.
His future goals for the club are to increase the membership,
develop guidelines for event organizers, and to add more
events across the nation.
