I have been contacted by Guy whom some of you remember was the guest speaker at the Chillicothe event.
They are planning a LCAC reunion at the base in VA where the LCAC's are stationed.
He is interested in having the Hoverclub of America stage a race and cruise during this event.
I will be going to the base at the end of the month for a meeting with all interested parties.
The current date is set for May 21st weekend 2010.

Below is the note i received from him.
Hey guys, hope this finds all of you well. We are putting together a Navy LCAC Hovercraft reunion in Norfolk VA, spring of 2010. I was thinking that we could try to bring you guys in on the event by having a race the same weekend in or around the Navy Hovercraft unit at Little Creek. The reunion would incorporate a Hovercraft tour, demo and rides. Please let me know if you would be interested.

All must realize that all of this is tentative and will post information as I receive it.

I can not pass on that either. Just keep me out of those large prop washes.

The LCAC's would not be able to race.
I know that this post is an attempt at humor, although a good one.
Imagine trying to pass an LCAC in a race in a light hovercraft.
It would be like flying in a hurricane or tornado.

We may have a chance to cruise around with the "Big One" or get a chance to get a ride.
Nothing is definite yet!!!!!!!
Lets see how things develop on the next few months.
This is all in the planning stages and just got started this week.

I wanted to get this out so that we can all get our crafts ready in the early spring for a very big event.
We have the whole winter to plan and get things ready.

Kent, I'm just now reading about the LCAC event....don't know how I missed seeing this post. I am definitely interested and unless something out of my control comes up, I'll certainly participate. This sounds like a wonderful opportunity/chance of a lifetime situation!!!

That's something that I wouldn't want to miss. Seen multiple pictures of LCAC but never been closer than that. Count me in also.

If this happens and it is properly promoted well ahead of time, I would not be surprised to see it break rally attendance records. People will come out of the woodwork and travel extreme distances for the possibility of an LCAC ride.

I think we'll all be giving Guy a big hug if this can happen!

It is possible.
I have mentioned that dodging tornadoes and flood waters has been challenging to say the least in the last few years.
We also have the possibility of the World Hovercraft Championship in the UK this year at the end of August (machines would have to ship by mid July).
It would make for easy scheduling for the year with events with race craft.

I have taken some pictures of the LCAC's while here for setting up the event.
I had been given a couple of rides. The seas were a bit rough and was surprised by how smooth the crafts took the rough seas - compared to our smaller craft.
They can be viewed at http://www.hoverclub...n...q=sc&cat=69
Pick on the LCAC visit folder.
I will be posting some videos and will post a link.
